[ Funnily enough, she wouldn't mind if Monika did. Huh.
Especially after that question. ]
It was... I had hope that we could settle it. But-- Spike and I tried to take the relic. Except, there was so much happening... Casariel, the dragon... Things were coming down so hard and fast.
[ She pauses. ]
We nearly had the relic. Then the ceiling came down, too, and it... it crushed the relic. I keep thinking, maybe I could have been faster or done something, anything, differently.
And... Casariel is gone, too. I think... it was a very last resort.
[ Monika frowns as she listens. It sounds like it was a very hard battle. Before she hesitated to touch Mira, but this time she puts her hand over hers. ]
Hey... it's okay to be upset. You all did your best, but we're all here now. We're going to get through this. But don't feel like you have to hold back either.
That sort of kindness, she's weak to it. Mira ducks her head. Sure enough... before long, her shoulders start shaking, and she lets out little gasps. Very quickly... they turn into sobs. Quiet, short ones, but sobs nonetheless. ]
[ Monika hold her quietly, letting the girl cry into her shoulder. Normally she's very bad at this kind of thing... but for some reason it comes easier with Mira. But then again, she hasn't cared about someone this much other than herself or the literature club before.
That's... kind of odd to think about. Why is that? ]
[ It's a comfort, she realizes. To have someone hold her like this. It surprises her, though, being this physically close to someone like this. In the back of her mind, she thinks maybe she shouldn't let herself get close. Who knows what will happen in the future--that paranoia, trying to claw its way to the surface.
But... but with Monika, she finds she can tamp those feelings down.
For a while, she cries, her arms eventually coming around Monika to hold on tight. She buries her face against Monika's shoulder. And when she pulls away a little, she wipes her eyes, sniffling. ]
[ It hurts to see her like this, but at least she can be here for Mira. Genuinely here. Never in her life did she think she could do this for someone she's come to care for so much.
[ She sniffles again, wiping at her eyes. Honestly, she's still letting a few fall, mostly because... She wasn't kidding when she said she wasn't sure if she'd be able to stop. ]

I'm... glad you're okay.
[ Slowly she lets it drop. ]
You were there, right? Tell me what happened.

You all fought very hard. You did your best.

Everyone did. I just wish-- I had been able to do something more.
[ It's shockingly honest, and Mira ducks her head a little. ]
But... but we did everything we could.

I know. But... if I start crying... I don't know if I'll be able to stop.

I'll stay with you as long as you need me Mira. It's okay; I think it'd be a lot better to get it out now.

S-sorry... I got your shirt all wet...

Monika laughs quietly and shakes her head. ]
It's totally okay. Do you want a tissue?
no subject
P-please.

Give me a moment, okay?
[ She gets up and hurries out of the room for a moment. It luckily doesn't take too long to find some tissues, which she takes back to Mira. ]
Here you go.
